RECREATION
“The Tobacco Valley is located at the junction of the
most scenic areas of northwest Montana and southeast British Columbia in the forests of the Northern Rocky Mountains.
The landscape ranges from crystal clear alpine lakes in rugged terrain to clear-running streams through densely wooded
valleys and alpine meadows teeming with wildflowers.
Eureka is roughly equidistant from the Big Mountain Ski Area north of Whitefish, Montana and the Snow Valley Ski Area
near Fernie, British Columbia, each about an hour drive from Eureka.
Unplowed Kootenai National Forest roads provide world-class snowmobile trails enroute to the Ten Lakes Scenic Area
east of Eureka.
Anglers can explore the scores of lakes
and creeks in the valley for trophy kamloop, rainbow and westlope cutthroat trout, and northern pike, while the 90-mile long
Lake Koocanusa provides an unparalleled marine adventure in search of kokanee salmon and ling.
Northwest Montana boasts a big-game hunting paradise with black bear, elk, moose, white
tail and mule deer seasons, with recent years witnessing near-record sightings and harvests.
